Why Hiking is Good for Your Health
There are numerous physical benefits to hiking. Getting outside for even a short hike regularly can reduce your risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure and cholesterol and help to prevent type II diabetes.
Trekking not only benefits your legs, but your whole body as well. Clambering over uneven surfaces while on trek such as Rainbow Mountain hike and navigating your way around rocks, fallen trees, across streams and over tree roots engages your core and works your upper body for a holistic work out. But the physical benefits are almost incidental to how hiking can contribute to your general mental health and wellbeing.
It is wise to note that health is more than cardio and strength conditioning. The following are some health benefits of hiking.
Hiking Clears the Mind and Reduces Stress
Our lives are ever busy due to tight schedule, many jobs, full of social calendars and everyday admin that keep us occupied round the clock. Going for a hike reduces your blood pressure and cortisol levels producing a calming effect that only nature can provide.
Hiking Makes Us Happier
‘Rumination’ are negative thought patterns that play over and over in our minds such as dwelling on embarrassing and disappointing moments or thinking about low moments in our lives. Getting out into the nature on a Rainbow Mountain hike ensures that this rumination is avoided and brings about a feeling of happiness.
Hiking Improves Sleep Quality
Climbing or even walking over uneven terrain uses 28% more energy than walking on flat surface. Hiking also helps you to remove all the new age stimuli that we often expose ourselves to throughout the day and right before sleeping- computers, phones, TVs among others.
Hiking Helps to Improve Memory
Studies have shown that people who have regular hiking expeditions, spend time in natural settings or similar, have improved memory and recollection. So it is time to take a break off video games and hit the track.
Hiking Minimizes Anxiety and Depression hiking is associated with the benefits of lowering stress levels. Hiking has been found to reduce anxiety by quietening the mind and letting you zone in on your breathing to a part of meditating state. Hiking, therefore, provides a natural stress relief and an instant mood boost.
Reconnect with Yourself
When you find yourself caught up in the frenzy, going for a Rainbow Mountain hike for instance, offers you an opportunity to reflect, recharge and reconnect with yourself. Occasionally, there is need to take time out and check if your life is in tune, then ease up a little.
